Selecting the best bulk bag discharge system for your plant or process line can be a daunting task. 1. Loading Options: Optimize Bulk Bag Handling
The application the bulk bag system will be used in will ultimately dictate the need for a specific type of loading. An economical and “manual” loading type is by fork lift. A fork lift style bag frame can be ideal where height restrictions are a concern, and the volume is a low to medium volume of bulk bags used each day.
A hoist style frame is more automated in nature, with an I-Beam designed into the upper section of the bulk bag frame and a hoist and trolley system being installed to retrieve, load and unload the bulk bag to and from the system. The hoist style frame is great for processes that require more frequent loading and unloading of bulk bags.
2. Bag Agitation: Promote Material Flow
There are many different types of bag agitators, with the most common being a type of paddle or pusher bar that massages the bag during operation to ensure consistent material flow and aids in empting the bag completely. An additional type of bag agitation is vibration, the bulk bag system will have a large pan designed to hold the bulk bag in place and depending on the product’s characteristics you can have one or more pan vibrators installed to promote material flow.
3. Bag Interface System: Ease of Operation
When loading a new bag or performing maintenance on the system, an iris valve and untie box are essential. The iris valve allows you to stop the material flow, and the untie box allows you to safely access the bag discharge spout. (see our blog post on "What is an Iris Valve and Untie Box?")
4. Dust Collection: Increase Safety and Work Environment
Minimizing maintenance and increasing safety are big factors in applications with certain product types and where cleanliness is required. A quality dust control system contains dust during operation and sends it to an area where it can be disposed of properly, also preventing contamination of other products or equipment nearby.
